The Sanctuary Choir, composed of adults of all ages, is the main ensemble that helps lead the congregation in worship at First Baptist. Consisting of 25-30 members, the choir sings a wide range of musical pieces for worship services, revivals, and other special events. The choir also presents larger musical works for the Christmas and Easter season, including Tom Fettke’s Carols and Classics and Hal Hopson’s Tenebrae: A Service of Darkness. Rehearsals take place in the main choir room on Wednesdays at 7:30 P.M. No audition is required to join; the only requirement is a joyful heart for music and the Lord!
SpiritSong is a select ensemble of 6-8 singers that presents occasional music “with a twist.” The music, which runs from gospel to contemporary Christian, is more challenging in terms of the preparation, but provides a musical and spiritual depth that enriches the soul. Rehearsals for the ensemble, which is by invitation, take place in the main choir room on Wednesdays at 6:45 P.M. SpiritSong members are also required to be active in the Sanctuary Choir.
Praise Bands and Orchestra
“Come let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.” (Psalm 95:6-7 NIV)
Worship isn’t just something that we do on Sundays; it’s what we were created for. Music and the arts play an essential role in the way that we worship our Lord and Creator. Indeed, scriptures tell us that “He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God” and in doing so, “many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord” (Psalm 40:3 NIV). At First Baptist, we offer a variety of avenues for people to fulfill the role that God created them for – to glorify Him along with the rest of creation!
We hope you’ll take a moment to check out our music ministry offerings; there are many opportunities for you to become involved!
